Egypt and Holy Land Trip 2023 with Pastor Peter and Michele Johnson
After being twice delayed due to the pandemic, Pastor Peter and Michele Johnson are pleased to announce the hosting of an Egypt and Holy Land pilgrimage trip in the spring of 2023 concluding with participation in the Palm Sunday procession into the city of Jerusalem. The dates of the trip are March 21 through April 3, 2023.
Pastor Peter and Michele lived in Cairo prior to coming to St. Andrew. Pastor Peter served as Regional Representative for the ELCA and Pastor and Executive Director St. Andrew’s United Church of Cairo and St. Andrew’s Refugee Services in downtown Cairo.
The itinerary (fees include all airfare, room and most board, etc.) starts with 4 days in Egypt to visit famous Ancient Egyptian monuments like the pyramids of Giza, an unforgettable experience of the desert monasticism of Coptic Christianity, and meeting friends of Pastor Peter and Michele’s who are related to their ministry in the context. Then, follow the footsteps of Jesus and the Bible with 9 days in Galilee, West Bank, Bethlehem, and Jerusalem while meeting more faithful friends of our hosts who live out their faith within the dynamic circumstances of Israel/Palestine.
We are pleased to offer an optional extension to participants interested in visiting Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. This extension will include a visit to Bethany beyond-the-Jordan (recognized as Jesus’ baptismal site), the ancient map mosaic of the Holy Land in the floor of a church at Madeba, and a visit to Mount Nebo where Moses viewed the Promised Land.
Note: Registration preference will be given to participants of the previously canceled trip, though there is space for more participants than the original trip.
Trip dates: March 21-April 3, 2023 (Optional Extension to Jordan: Return to US on April 6)
Registration: Deadline for registration is August 31
