WELCOME

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
On this night, let us confess our sin against God and others. Most merciful God,

we confess that we are not perfect in our relationship with you and with others.  We fall short.  We have not loved you with our whole heart.  We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves as Jesus taught us. For the sake of your son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ forgives us and loves us. Receive God’s love as a sign of God’s peace and give thanks. Trust in the forgiveness and love of God for you today and always. Thanks be to God.

HYMN
“When You Woke That Thursday Morning” (St. 1-3)

PRAYER OF THE DAY
Holy God, source of all love, Jesus gave his disciples a new commandment, to love one another as he loves us. Write this commandment in our hearts, and give us the will to serve others as he was the servant of all. In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.

READING
Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

The Word of the Lord.  Thanks be to God.

READING
Luke 22:14-20

When the hour came, he took his place at the table, and the apostles with him. He said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I tell you, I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; for I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” Then he took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And he did the same with the cup after supper, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.”

The Word of the Lord.  Thanks be to God.
