Worship Services on Luke (Page 2)

Thanksgiving Eve: “No Matter What!”

READINGLuke 17:11-19 On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus’…

Worship (10:30 AM Contemporary) “Warts and All”

Text: Luke 7:36-47 The mark of our most meaningful relationships is that the person sees us at our worst and loves us anyway.  The same is certainly true of Jesus, who knows everything about us and still loves us fiercely.  When we understand this, it leads us to love more deeply and to receive Jesus’ love with overflowing gratitude and praise.

Worship (10:30 AM Contemporary) “Success”

Text: Luke 12:13-21 Success can be a double-edged sword.  Even while God is equipping us to “do all things through Christ who strengthens [us],” Jesus warns us that “life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.”  How do we measure our success and have we ever “arrived” or does God call us to deeper purposes than success as our world defines it?

Worship (10:30 AM Contemporary) “Our Walk”

Text: Luke 24: 13-35 We may very well ask how disciples could travel the road to Emmaus with Jesus and not recognize him. But the simple truth is that Jesus walks with us every day and comes to us in many ways that we fail to recognize! Nevertheless Jesus makes himself known in many and various ways. Sometimes we notice Jesus right away. Other times, it takes awhile.

Worship | Palm Sunday (6:30 PM) “Thursday Night Dinner”

Jesus brings us together to become one body, united through the bread and wine of the Lord’s Supper. On Maundy Thursday (“commandment” Thursday), we remember the new commandment that Jesus gives us to love one another, and we celebrate Holy Communion along with our children who receive their First Communion. The “Rescue Story” of our salvation through Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross begins here. Join us for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter worship as we experience together the Passion…

Worship | Palm Sunday (10:30 AM Contemporary) “Save Us”

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week for Christians around the world.  As our Sunday School children join us in worship with palm branches and shouts of “hosanna,” we hear together the story of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, and we see how events will turn that lead Jesus toward the cross of Calvary- for us and for our salvation.  Christians today still need to raise our voices in singing hosanna– “Lord, save us!”

Worship (10:30 AM Contemporary) “Lost Cause”

Text: Luke 22:54-62 Part of our Lenten journey involves us looking with honesty at our own sin and our need for redemption.  Before the events of Good Friday unfold, Peter is overcome by fear and denies knowing Jesus.  How do our own fears get in the way us following Jesus?  Is the cause of Jesus’ ministry a lost cause?  Is Peter a lost cause?  Are we a lost cause or are there perhaps events coming in the week ahead that…
