Worship Services on Matthew (Page 3)
Worship (10:30 AM Contemporary) “Anger”
Text: Matthew 5:21-26 God’s Word provides us with solid reasoning on the importance of settling our differences with others. The God of peace asks us to be reconciled with our brothers and sisters even before we come before the Lord in worship. Wasn’t it peace that Jesus was showing us in his death on the cross? How is God calling us to transform our anger into something life-giving before we do and say things that we later regret?

Worship | Lent (7:00 PM) “Jesus, a New Jonah”
Jonah is the ironic foil to every other human and non-human character in thebook–all of whom obey God without question or protest. In Matt 8:23-27, Jesus exemplifies peace 4 of 5 in the thick of disruption. Disruptions have a way of exposing things that are otherwise buried beneath the surface. The onset of a violent storm lays bare the disciples’ lack of trust. But it also simultaneously exposes Jesus for who he is: the Lord of creation who stops the…

Advent Worship (10:30 AM Contemporary) “What Do You Want for Christmas?”
Text: Matthew 3:1-12 We do a lot to get ready for Christmas but what does John the Baptist mean when he says “Prepare the way for the Lord?” How can we carve out some time for spiritual practices in the midst of a busy season so that we experience more fully the coming of Christ at Christmas?

Worship (10:30 AM Contemporary) “Stay Calm”
Text: Matthew 8:23-27 A storm can approach without warning just like it did when Jesus was out on a boat with his disciples. But Jesus is in the business of calming the storms that threaten us just as he did that day. We can stay calm because Jesus is with us. “Be still and know that I am God.”

Worship (10:30 AM Contemporary) “Prepare”
Text: Matthew 7:24-29 Jesus’ parable of the wise and foolish builders seems to suggest the inevitability of the storms of life. The rains will come, the streams will rise, and the winds will blow. But we can build our life on the rock foundation of Jesus Christ and God invites us to connect to him on a daily basis through God’s gift of faith. Our series begins with a focus on what it means to be “storm proof.”
