WELCOME
THANKSGIVING FOR BAPTISM
Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God,
who creates, saves, and sends us
with love that lives forever.
Amen.
Joined to Christ in the waters of baptism,
we give thanks for the Great Exchange,
the mercy and forgiveness that wrap
our true selves in sacred belonging and purpose.
Thanks be to God. Alleluia!
For a word at the dawn of creation,
which spoke water and life into being.
Thanks be to God. Alleluia!
For the river that carried Moses safely,
building a bridge between mothers and nations.
Thanks be to God. Alleluia!
For the One who turned water to wine
and met a woman at the well with living water.
Thanks be to God. Alleluia!
For the gift of holy baptism,
which declares there are no more godforsaken places,
and nothing can separate us from the love of God in Jesus.
Thanks be to God. Alleluia!
God of life, we rejoice with the waters that cover creation;
our songs of praise echo their dancing tides and streams.
Pour out your Holy Spirit on this community and all of creation.
Cleanse our fears. Drown our divisions.
Give us mercy and grace to drink so that our whole lives
are signs of death defeated and thirst quenched
thanks to the risen Jesus, the Son of God.
Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
God of all creation,
your Spirit led the reformers to lives of service, informing their testimonies of good news and calling forth a simple faith rooted in Jesus. Renew our vision to see the new thing you are doing among us. Ignite revival in this community so that we might bear witness to your unshakeable love that welcomes all with open arms, today and always. Amen.

READING
Acts 2:14-18, 22-24, 32-33, 36
But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, “Fellow Jews and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o’clock in the morning. No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
‘In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
Even upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy…
“Fellow Israelites, listen to what I have to say: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with deeds of power, wonders, and signs that God did through him among you, as you yourselves know— this man, handed over to you according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law. But God raised him up, having released him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power… This Jesus God raised up, and of that all of us are witnesses. Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you see and hear… Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made him both Lord and Messiah, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
