WELCOME

HOLY WEEK CONFESSION
As we walk through the week we call holy, we remember a God who is good, a God who celebrates with us, who dines with us, and for whom death does not have the final word. In this week we call holy, set aside time for us to confess, to say we’re sorry, to see what is wrong in our world, and hear the story of Jesus’ life, which is life for us anew.

(Silence for reflection)

Jesus rode a donkey and the people shouted Hosanna! We hear protest for justice and a call for a better way.
Lord, have mercy.

Jesus gathered friends around a table to eat of love and drink of community. Our tables, often quiet by grief, want the noise and life of a dinner party.
Lord, have mercy.

Jesus prayed late at night in the garden, while his friends fell asleep. We pray with tired eyes, falling asleep to the hurt in our neighborhoods.
Lord, have mercy.

Jesus walked to his death while people jeered. We have seen too much death from disease and violence.
Lord, have mercy.

We long for your forgiveness, though we don’t deserve it. Give us a better way. Gather us around a table for all. Wake us up to the hurt around. Show us life.

In Jesus there is forgiveness for all that we have done, all that we have forgotten to do, all that we cannot do to make this world a better place. You are forgiven. + You are free. And there is life in the way of Jesus! Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
Dear God, you set a table of forgiveness and love for each of us. Feed us with your good news, so that we may dine together as friends of Jesus, whose life we remember today. Draw us close to one another, even when we are distant. Set a table for all people where there is life and goodness for all to share. Amen.
