Take Up the Towel | Worship Together

John 13:1-17 (Jesus Washes the Disciples' Feet)
As Jesus nears his death, he models for us that leaders roll up their sleeves and serve people. On this day, we celebrate Spirit in the Pines and all leaders at any stage.

Upside Down Leaders celebrates that God calls everyday people to rise as humble, authentic, servant-hearted, and generous leaders in a world hungry for hope. Beginning with Samuel's awakening to God's voice, we discover during this series that real leadership begins when we embrace the identity God lovingly gives us. Through the journeys of people like Samuel, Ruth, and Jesus' disciples, we are reminded that true strength shines brightest when we follow first, walk in humility, and bring our whole, honest selves before God. This series invites you to set into Jesus-shaped leadership - serving others, empowering the weary, and building communities transformed by love.

OPENING RESPONSES
Come young ones and old ones, both tall ones and short.
come rich ones and poor ones; we’re all God’s cohort.
Let’s worship God now, together as one.
We worship God now, together as one.
With anger or fear, or hope or depression,
gather us God in trust and confession.
We bring you our song, our laughter and deed.
We bring you our sorrow, our worry, our creed.
Let’s worship God now, together as one.
We worship God now, together as one.
So weave us together, as family and friends,
an unbroken circle with love never ends.
As your children gather, each of us one,
we live out your callings, ‘til your will be done.
Let’s worship God now, together as one.
We worship God now, together as one.
We worship God now, together as one.

And all of God’s children said? Amen!

SHARING THE PEACE
The peace of Christ be with you all. And also with you.

OPENING SONG
“Light of the World”

PRAYER OF THE DAY
Gracious God,
You have called us to be servant leaders in the world. Empower us by your Spirit to be the hands and feet of Jesus to all people, so that all would know of your love and care. In Jesus’ name we pray: Amen.

READING
Philippians 2:4–11

Let each of you look not to your own interests but to the interests of others. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, assuming human likeness.  And being found in appearance as a human, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death— even death on a cross. Therefore God exalted him even more highly and gave him the name that is above every other name,so that at the name given to Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The Word of the Lord.  Thanks be to God.
