Wow

Texts: Psalm 139:1-10 (“such knowledge is too wonderful for me…”)

Wow... a spiritual practice of awe and gratitude for God.

Even when life is exceedingly challenging, confusing, chaotic, or complicated, there is a moment for wonder. We’ll practice together, acknowledging that God’s mysterious love is inescapable. It is new every single morning, rising on the wings of dawn itself. We’ll say “Thank you,” for the many ways that God provides for us.

WELCOME

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God,
who forgives all our sin,
whose mercy endures forever.
Amen.
Let us confess our sin in the presence of God
and of one another.
Silence is kept for reflection.
Faithful God,
you have shown us the ways of your heart,
yet we stray from your paths.
We are stuck in sinful systems of oppression
and do not embrace the freedom
of your faithful promises.
We ignore our neighbors.
We exploit the earth.
We reject your abundance,
trusting our impulses instead of your steadfast love.
Repair our relationships,
restore what we have broken,
renew our hearts,
and bring us to new life.
Amen.

Hear the good news:
God the Faithful One loves you,
☩ in Christ Jesus your sins are forgiven,
and by the power of the Holy Spirit you are set free.
Amen.

GREETING
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you.

GATHERING HYMN
“For the Beauty of the Earth/Signs and Wonders”

PRAYER OF THE DAY
God of wonders,

You surround us with signs of your gracious kingdom, and you invite us to be a part of it. Shape us, dear Lord, into a church that is captivated by the wonder of your love and help us to share that abundant love with all, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

READING
Psalm 139:1-10

O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it.

Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

WELCOME

OPENING RESPONSES
Come young ones and old ones, both tall ones and short.
Come rich ones and poor ones; we’re all God’s cohort.

Let’s worship God now, together as one.
We worship God now, together as one.

With anger or fear, or hope or depression,
gather us God in trust and confession.
We bring you our song, our laughter and deed.
We bring you our sorrow, our worry and creed.

Let’s worship God now, together as one.
We worship God now, together as one.

So weave us together, as family and friends,
an unbroken circle with love never ends.
As your children gather, each of us one,
we live out your callings, ‘til your will be done.

Let’s worship God now, together as one.
We worship God now, together as one.
And all of God’s children said? Amen!

SHARING OF THE PEACE
The peace of Christ be with you all.  And also with you.

OPENING  SONG
“Counting Every Blessing”

PRAYER OF THE DAY
Loving God,
You surround us with community so that we can love and support one another in good times and in bad times.  Teach us by your Spirit to live in gratitude so that our lives are like a prayer of thanksgiving for your goodness that pursues us throughout our lives.  In Jesus’ name we pray.   Amen.

STORY TIME
Pastor Kristin & Shawna Berg

READING
Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside still waters;  he restores my soul.
He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
    I fear no evil, for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
    my whole life long.

The word of the Lord.  Thanks be to God.

“Thanks!”
