Speaking Peace Into Chaos

John 20:19-23 (Jesus appears to his disciples).
Psalm 46 (Where is God in chaos and division).
Locked into fear after the resurrection, the disciples are met by the risen Christ's reassuring words: "Peace be with you". Even though "the mountains shake", and the "waters roar and foam" and the "kingdoms totter", the Psalmist trusts that God is our "refuge and strength". In a polarized and anxious world, we are called not to echo the chaos, but to carry Christ's peace into it. With our God of Peace by our side, how do we begin to take these steps together?

Love in a Divided World
We are living in a moment when division feels almost unavoidable. Families fracture over beliefs, communities splinter along cultural and political lines, and even the church is not immune to the forces that pull people apart. Yet into this fractured world, the gospel speaks a different word - a word of love, peace, justice, and unity. This series, Love in a World Divided, invites us to explore what it means to follow Jesus when the world around us feels polarized and anxious.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
God of Love and Light,
you have spoken peace into the chaos of our broken world through your Son Jesus Christ. Make us also into peacemakers as you send us into the world so that all may know of your reign of love, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

READING
John 20:19-23

When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors were locked where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
