God Is on a Mission
“God is on a mission! And that mission is to love and save the world.” That’s a quote from one of my seminary professors early in my years at Luther Seminary describing the vision for what God is up to in this world. I like it because it it’s clear and simple. I like it because it includes everybody. I like it because —well, . . . I get it!
Our theme for this fall’s giving appeal calls us to be a part of God’s mission in the world—to catch the vision that has been cast and to share that vision with others. We are called to show that God’s glory —God’s presence—works in, around and through every one of us. We share God’s glory when we pass God’s giving on to others.
Giving is a significant aspect of the Christian life, not because we seek reward and recognition, but because that is simply what faith does —it moves us to give. It is a faithful response to God’s unending presence in our lives—God’s unconditional love and grace. As God goes about the mission of loving and saving the world, God continually gives beyond our wildest hopes and dreams, and I believe we are called to do the same.
Our leaders have given way to the possibilities this past year and look forward to continued growth and opportunity in 2018, and it will require more of us to do that. Rather than allowing ourselves to be limited by what we think we can do, we have opened our minds to what God is calling us to do—and God continues to show that we can do more than we ever imagined.
So this fall I invite you to “Catch the Vision” that God has put before us and to “Share the Glory” of God’s goodness and love with the world. I would ask you to consider how you might grow your giving to support God’s work through St. Andrew. I think you will be surprised by how much God will do through your generous giving.
Thanks be to God for all we have received! Thanks be to God for all that you have given!
